A busy Tuesday
Today was Bob and Mine Anniversary. 42 years with a few more planned. In the morning I went around the lake to the Keowee Key Subdivision to visit and paint with some women that get together in the basement of the country club. Now, we don't live there and it is by their grace and kindness that I can try this new adventure. They have been painting and talking together for something like 20 years. And sadly so many of them are no longer around to share with. The woman that called me and invited me is 83 years old. Her name now is Shirley Brodoff. Her husband is a doctor and she said he takes very good care of her. She had a full scholarship to the Royal Academy of art in England, when she was 11 years old. So I would say she has been painting a long time. She is Welsh, but she says "Bloody".... etc. And she is so honest and so real. No one else showed up but another beginner by the name of Carol. She is painting in acrilic and I swear she is a colorist. I love what she does. They have known each other for years and gossip and tell stories and happenings in their lives and I love getting to be involved with this, since I am now far away from the other Doves in Oklahoma and Texas. Shirley lived in New York or showed her paintings in New York Galleries and it may have been under the name Shirley Shinberg. I want to search her on line. She is bringing me a book of all the paintings she has sold next week. I can hardly wait to see them. She used to paint large paintings. But we have little room and just do studies, so she has painted flowers the two times I have visited. The last one she finished today, I just loved. Besides the fact that they match my bathroom and bedroom colors. I'll post the picture if I can get it to work off my I phone. And I will post what I painted with her suggestions, but I goofed painting it and don't know if I can fix it. I didn't put the background in soon enough. After setting up the drawing I should have done the background to get my colors to "hue". Well live and learn. Shirley loves to Oil Paint. And she says " Go for it. It is Your painting. Paint what you see and love." How can I go wrong with that encouragement?
